"Night; and once again, the while I wait for you, cold wind turns into rain."

Masaoka Shiki

"Content and Context"

Themes:

  • Aeon

  • Inner Dark

  • Fickle

In this first initial step of designing was to figure which theme was best to represent my poem, and straight away 'Aeon' was the one, its good to have other themes but 'Aeon was the best possible theme for my poem.

Fickle:

changing frequently, especially as regards one's loyalties or affections. This was idea theme due to "Night; and once again, the while I wait for you" frequent change of commitment.

Inner Dark:

Inner Darkness is the culmination of all our unresolved or disharmonic aspects within. ... Perception based on darkness does not only obscure the way we see the world and others, but also reconfirms our ego-beliefs and manifests in further inner darkness. Illustrated a man with darkness swirling and growing from waiting and being forgotten about (Waiting in the rain)

Aeon:

My goal is too create a illustration poster that represents sadness, Cold, Prolonged amount of time. Firstly I starting drawing sketches.

  • I was thinking younger man sitting on wall upright. And then from motion movement is now an older man haunch over.

  • A man sitting upright on a bench then from motion illustration shows him slowly lay down on the bench.

Then the idea I first chased was an idea of having a man patiently waiting underneath a lamppost, with an umbrella to represent rain/cold, with his down to symbolise sadness. with the lamppost being the only an the surroundings is only vague but dark.

At first in my mind is was a good idea, but my skills to transfer it too illustrator is beyond question, by first I sketched the idea on an A4, then illustrated, followed by colour and surrounding darkness, but came out completely of what I did not want.

So I started sketching again, after coming up with my favourite design to portray loneliness, sadness, cold, Prolonged amount of time. Presented a man sitting on a bench with his head down, looking at his reflection on the ground from the puddle which I wish I had the skills to portray but regardless holding a umbrella. Very cold themed colours. After sketching the basic idea, I transferred and illustrated (Black and White). From there I created colour, my plan in terms of colour mixing, were the saturation would be quite low overall symbolising darkness, shivering, next would be value (the degree of lightness or darkness). Then finalising and producing my final poster.
